Parvati means ‘she is from the mountains’, because her parents are seen as himavat, the mountains in the Himalayas massif. She is often seen as a very beautiful woman, and an example to others. Parvati is also known as Kali or Durga. She is the mother of Ganesha and is therefore often worshipped so that people can take good care of others. Parvati is usually seen as the most important help, and wife, of Shiva. Shiva and Parvati have together had two sons, Ganesha and Skanda. They are often depicted with four of them on Mount Kailash.
