Recycled and fair trade: Foldable clickboxes with a smart closing system. The clickboxes are made of recycled PET bottles. A clickbox can be used to store small items but is also great for gift wrapping! The clickboxes are made by women in South Africa and are an initiative of the ‘All woman recycling’ project. Each box is unique and has a different design
Clickbox – South Africa
South Africa has more than 54 million inhabitants. The landscape is characterised by high plains in the interior, a narrow coastal plain and rugged hills along the edge. The climate in South Africa is mostly semi-desert and along the coast subtropical. It is a developing country with a high percentage of unemployment. Export is encouraged to create employment and sustainable trade relations.
Artisans
In 2008, the producer came up with the idea of recycling PET bottles. These are collected from landfills and processed into trendy and environmentally friendly gift packaging. By making these products, they create work for women. In addition to a stable income, the women are offered all kinds of training so that they can develop themselves further.
How is it made?
The PET bottles are first washed and then cut into large pieces. A napkin with a nice print is glued around the bottle. If necessary, decorative elements are attached. Sometimes the product is also painted. When all this is done, the product can be dried and cut into its final shape. The clickbox is then ready to be packed.
Fairtrade
The producer is WFTO-certified. By developing environmentally friendly products they try to reduce plastic waste. In addition, a future is created for unemployed women. Women are given a fair chance so that they can earn extra money. They are often not educated and therefore get a chance to earn more money
