These beautiful mood lights are made by hand in the Philippines. They use Capiz shells. The shells have been used for centuries as a natural replacement for glass.
The lotus flower is widely seen and used in Hinduism and Buddhism. In these cultures it is a sacred flower that symbolises purity, your beauty, inner growth and the connection with the universe.
The lotus flower has a symbolic meaning for the ‘growth to enlightenment’ which mainly stems from the growth process of the flower. The lotus flower nestles in the mud under water and then grows very vigorously towards the light, after which we can observe a beautiful flower on the water.
We can also experience this process as human beings; the mud symbolises ignorance and suffering. As you grow you become wiser, and once enlightenment is achieved, you shine just like that beautiful lotus flower.
The Capiz Shell is an oyster-like flat shell, which is found in large quantities in the waters around the Philippine islands. The shell is flat and fairly round. In the Spanish colonial times they were mainly used for windows in houses because of their translucent character; precisely this property makes it an ideal base material for these mood lights.
