Dreamcatcher – Bali
Bali is an island of Indonesia with a population of over 3 million. Dance and music are very important in daily life, but the Balinese are also very spiritual. Throughout the years Bali has continually developed and the economy is also growing.
Artisans
The producer has been in business since 1994. They only work with local materials. 95% of the employees are women. The employees are given the opportunity to continue to develop through training.
How is it made?
First a wooden ring is made. It is then wrapped with thick yarn until the ring is no longer visible. The web is is then created by making loops on the ring with cotton thread. When the ring is completely filled, they work further inwards. Finally the dreamcatcher is decorated with feathers, shells and/or stones. The materials used come from local suppliers.
Fairtrade
It is important to the producer to work as transparently as possible and the waste of chemicals is avoided as much as possible. This is their contribution to preserving the environment. The space in which they work is also very clean, since it is used as a school. Women are offered a fair chance to earn extra money. The women are often not educated and therefore this is a good opportunity. This offers them stability and makes them stronger.
