On both ends there is a hole in which you can insert an incense stick; during roasting the ashes fall into the box. Underneath is the space to store incense sticks. The Yin-Yang sign is a sign that comes from Taoism. Taoism is a Chinese philosophical and religious movement. In Taoism people do not believe in a personal God, as Christians do, but in a kind of primal force from which everything originates. Tao stands for the eternal and unlimited. It stands for the basis of everything. For good and evil, for earth and heaven, for soul, for primal power, for creation, for nothing and for everything. The aim is to bring man into complete harmony with nature and the universe. In Taoism people also believe in reincarnation; being born again. People are born again until they have become one with the universe, nothing and everything. Then that person has reached immortality and keeps everything on. Wood with inlaid metal yin-yang symbols.
