Linghams are found only in the Narmada River high in the mountains of Mandhata, one of the seven sacred places of pilgrimage in India. Each Lingham contains sacred markings found on the forehead of Lord Shiva.

The Shiva Lingham stone, dedicated to the god Shiva of Narmadashawara, is a sacred stone for Hindus and Buddhists alike. Once a year there is a gathering near the source of the Narmada River, 300 kilometres north of Mumbai (Bombay).
