Artisans
The driftwood articles are made by a small-scale family business. Putu and Koman founded this company as a couple. Together they have three children. About 15 people work in the family business of Putu and Koman.
How is it made?
The products are made of teak trees that have already been cut down. From the root stumps all kinds of products are made. The stumps are dug up and cleaned. For the glass part, they use recycled glass. The pieces of glass are heated in an oven, which makes it melt. The mouth-blown glass is placed on the stumps while it is still hot and soft. Then they blow the glass into the right shape and it takes the shape of the stump. As a final step, the top is cut open and polished.
Fairtrade
The teak trees have already been cut down, by making nice products from the stumps they try to use the cut down tree in its entirety. In this way, they prevent teak from being lost. This also applies to the glass. Only recycled glass is used. In this way, they try to contribute to the environment. Through this family business, Putu and Koman can offer their children a good future. The employees also have a stable income and future opportunities.
