Native Americans believe that space is filled with both good and bad dreams. When you let the dreamcatcher swing freely above or near your bed, it is said that the dreams are captured. The idea is that the good dreams manage to slip through the outer holes of the dream catcher and along the soft feathers, while the bad dreams don’t know the way, get caught in the dreamcatcher and disappear with the first light of a new day.
