Where Did Singing Bowls Originate?

Originally, these meditation tools are from the Tibetan Buddhist areas, close to the Himalayas. As a result, they are also called Himalayan Singing Bowls. However, they are often commonly called Tibetan shells or medicine bells. It is believed that the sound of a singing bowl could potentially have a healing effect, which is why they are often used during Meditation or singing bowl therapy. So whether you call them Meditation bowls, medicine bells, Tibetan shells, or Singing bowls, these instruments make a great addition to your spiritual practice.

How Are Singing Bowls Made?

Manufacturing these instruments is a complicated and lengthy process. It is a real work of art. Each bowl is unique and therefore has its own sound and tone. The singing bowls at Spiru each produce a special and long-lasting sound. They are all of the highest possible quality. Some bowls have a short response time, which means that the sound can be heard immediately after the bowl is struck with a mallet. Others have a longer response time, which depends on the size and thickness of the bowl.

Are you looking to buy your own? Spiru has got you covered! It is important to make sure that the bowl is of good quality. They are very fragile to begin with, so a a bowl that is of poor quality may break or damage quickly. Let your intuition guide you towards the bowl that is right for you. Mallet Singing Bowl

Singing bowls are often bought in combination with a mallet. The mallets are available in all shapes and sizes. Whether you want an Extra Large Singing Bowl, a petite one, or a Zen Singing Bowl, our mallets match every single one. The bowls damage easily, especially if it is a crystal singing bowl or an antique bowl, and this could ruin the tone and length of its pure sounds. For this reason, we always recommend ordering a Cushion or Coaster in addition to the bowl.

Singing Bowl Care

Because Singing Bowls are delicate, it’s important to take good care of them.  It’s important to know how to clean a singing bowl. To do this correctly first ask yourself what is a singing bowl made of? Usually they are metal or crystal and each type has their own special care.  To clean metal bowls try to be as gentle as possible.  Use a warm damp cloth to wipe of stains and oils, and then dry the bowl with a soft cloth. If you don’t use aggressive cleaners, over time the metal will change color, or patina which is natural and beautiful!

Crystal Singing Bowls are essentially made of a type glass.  So, you guessed it, using a gentle glass cleaner works great.  Just remember to pat them dry rather than wiping. The Crystal has a subtle texture that could pick up lint and effect the sound if wiped down. Always place your crystal bowl on it’s rubber coaster while cleaning, so that it doesn’t slip and crack.

More Soothing Sounds

There are many more musical items that you can try. For example, you could try Gongs, which can also be used during yoga and meditation. Not so fond of sounds? Maybe crystals are more your thing!
