This fascinating and mystical Damaru is beautifully decorated with colourful silk tassels and fringes, which look very nice and produce perfect sound. Easy to roll into each other to pack in a silk brocade box for travel. Perfect sound and balance, excellent ritual drum quality, the pitch of the drum varies. This depends on conditions such as humidity and temperature. By using the damaru slowly and methodically, it accompanies the captivating melodies and songs of the Chod ritual and thus also accompanies the inner meditations and visualizations that are the heart of this spiritual practice. The sound of the damaru is seen as a symbol of emptiness or shunyata. The two drums merged represents relative and ultimate Bodhicitta. The shape of the damaru originates in ancient India – where one side of the drum is seen as male energy (Lingam) and the other side represents female creativity (Yoni). The creation of the world thus begins with the lingam and yoni who meet in the middle of the damaru. In tantric Buddhist rituals, the damaru instructs us and helps us to remember the transience at the moment that the female goddesses, called Dakini’s, are evoked by sound. A different interpretation of the damaru’s sound suggests that the drum shows the rhythm of the heartbeat.
