These are burst air bubbles in the molten copper. This phenomenon is normal and does not cause a hole or dent. It does not affect the sound quality or lifespan of the gong.Earth Tone Gongs are unturned gongs, which means they look as they come out of the mold. Most Chinese gongs have this color right after casting. The darker the color, the slower the gong cracks. The Earth Tone Gong, with its unpolished exterior, produces a deeper tone. It does not sound as intense as a Wind Gong, or even a Chao.
