A Viking pendant with deer head and rune compass.
The Vegvisir, also known as the runic compass or Viking compass, made from eight Viking rune trees, is believed to be a symbol of protection and guidance used as a compass by the Vikings.
The purpose of the runic compass: “Whoever carries this sign will never lose his way, neither in a storm nor in bad weather – not even if the path is unknown”.
Among Celts, the deer head is associated with the sun. It is a symbol of male strength. That is why warriors go into battle in deer skins, and why priests are also dressed in deer skins.
