Kapalas are mainly used in tantric meditation, in order to reach an enlarged consciousness, and also as a sacrificial bowl on the altar. The kapala has the shape of a skull. In Tibetan monasteries, the kapala is symbolically used as a sacrificial bowl with bread, torma (sacrificial biscuits) and wine. This sacrificial symbolism is unique to the highest form of Yoga Tantra and is associated with secret forces. Each set consists of three parts: a stand, a bowl and a lid.
