Tuning forks don’t just help to strike the right note in music. What is a tuning fork used for spiritually? Find out in this blog.

According to sound therapists, you can evoke healing vibes using a tuning fork. Many believe that this simple instrument has the same natural vibrations as, for example, those of the solar system. Curious about how they work and why healers use the sound of a tuning fork? Immerse yourself in their vibes here!

What is a Tuning Fork?

A tuning fork is an aluminum instrument tuned to a specific frequency. As soon as you hit the fork, there is a vibration and a tone. Some bars, “weighted” tuning forks, have – you guessed it – weights on the ends. These are designed for stronger vibrations and longer-lasting sound. Unweighted versions are lighter and usually emit a short tone. Either one can be useful during tuning fork healing.

How Does a Tuning Fork Work?

Tuning forks are tuned to a tone or vibrational frequency that sound therapists say corresponds to natural forces or other healing vibes. For example, you have rods that, according to mathematician and astrologer Hans Cousto, give off the vibration of the sun, earth, and cosmos. There are also forks that, according to sound healers, have an effect on the Chakras, the seven energetic nodes with which they usually work. The vibration of the tuning fork would travel throughout the body and mind, automatically encountering places where the energy does not ‘resonate’. These places then come into harmony through the vibrations of the tuning fork. This would make the energy at these points start flowing again and eventually return to balance.

This Is What Tuning Fork Therapy Looks Like

During tuning fork healing, the patient relaxes on a massage table or floor while the therapist uses the vibration frequencies  of the tuning fork to examine their energy system. Sometimes the rods touch the body and other times the practitioner is further away from the client. In this way they could focus the invisible Aura. A tuning fork session usually has the same approach as Reiki or other energetic care, namely relaxation and awareness.

Getting Started with a Tuning Fork

Are you familiar with energy work or sound therapy? You can also try tuning forks yourself, just like singing bowls or a gong. Do you like to Meditate or are you a yoga teacher? Then an Ohm tuning fork sound is probably familiar to you. Of course, you can also ask a sound healer for advice before you start working with tuning forks. After a session, they may be able to tell you which tone you respond well to or which basic tuning forks are suitable for beginners. Which tuning fork you should buy depends on your wishes and how professionally you want to use it!

How Do You Use a Tuning Fork?

How to use a tuning fork? Actually that is very simple. You can strike the tuning fork with a beater or on a so-called activator. That is a rubber coaster that you place on a solid surface. Some people even combine tuning forks with gongs or Singing Bowls. Which method is best for you depends on the way you want to work. A fixed activator comes in handy for seated treatments, while a beater can be useful for standing or dynamic sessions. There are also special wearable activators for the thigh. If you use one of these, you can keep your hands free. This makes it possible, for example, to use two forks at the same time. Ideal if you want to provide a complete sound bath!

Harmonize Your Energy with Spiru

Are you curious about more ways to get your energy flowing? Just like sound therapy, Reiki can help to balance the energy in the body and create harmony within. Or if you suspect you may have an energy blockage or that your body is holding on to old negativity, try Gua Sha massage to cleanse yourself. This therapy combines healing massage with gemstone energy to really help you back into balance. Additionally, for any of these therapies it helps to know your Chakras. Then based on your ailment, you know where to focus your energy. Feeling anxious and vulnerable for example? That’s a Root Chakra problem. Is your intuition less sharp than usual? You may have a Third Eye Chakra blockage. But no matter what tool you choose to tap into Cosmic Power, you’ll find it at Spiru!
