Ring Sizes: How to Find the Perfect Fit

Measuring ring size is a lot easier than you think. How do you do that? We’ll explain that to you here!

You don’t always have your ring size within reach (Sorry, couldn’t resist!). Do you sometimes wonder: What Is my ring size? In this blog we give you tips to measure ring sizes and we reveal the average ring size of men and women. This way you are (almost) always close to a perfect fit when you give a ring as a gift!

How to Measure Ring Size?

If you don’t have a ring sizer, you can measure your ring size in several ways. The quickest and easiest way is to use a tape measure, but this method is not always reliable. The best way to determine your ring size is to use a ribbon or string. Twist it loosely (not too tight!) around your finger and cut it off. Place the piece of ribbon or rope that was around your finger along a ruler or measuring tape. You now have the circumference of the inside of the ring!

How Do You Measure Your Ring Size Reliably?

There are a few things to keep in mind when trying to determine ring size:

• Correct temperature
• Measure correct finger
• Time of the day
• Different measuring moments

Correct Temperature

Keep in mind that the temperature can determine the size of your fingers. So make sure you don’t measure your finger if you have icy cold hands. Your fingers will become narrower! It is also not a good idea to measure your fingers on a sweltering summer day because your fingers can sometimes swell up a bit in the heat!

Measure Correct Finger 

Make sure you know in advance which finger the ring is worn on. By this we do not only mean that you know whether the ring is worn on the index, middle, or ring finger, but also on which hand. The fingers on your left and right hand can also have different sizes!

Time of the Day

Did you know that your fingers are bigger at the end of the day than when you just got up? It is therefore better to measure your finger before going to bed than in the morning or, even better, measure your finger somewhere in the middle of the day.

Different Measuring Moments

It might be even wiser to measure your finger at two different times. Then you know for sure that you are in the right range! If you are in doubt between two sizes, choose the largest.

What Ring Size do I Have?

Now that you know the circumference of your finger, it’s time to find out which ring size fits you (or the person you want to gift a ring with)! With a ring size table you can see which ring size you have.

• Omtrek: Circumference of your finger measured with string in millimeters
• Ringmaat: Ring Size
• Binnendiameter:  Size of the inside of the ring

Average Ring Size Woman

If you want to surprise your partner or a friend, for example with a birthstone ring, you don’t want to spoil the surprise! But sometimes it is difficult to find out someone’s ring size without them realizing it. Perhaps it helps to know what the average ring size of a woman is. The average woman’s finger has a circumference of 54 mm, so when translated to ring sizes, women generally wear between 17 or 17.5. Keep in mind that everyone is different so this isn’t 100% accurate and that  a person’s  ring size can change due to pregnancy. Good to know!

Average Ring Size Man

The same applies to the men, of course. If you want to surprise someone, you want to know that the ring also fits! The average circumference of a man’s finger is about 64 mm. So when it comes to ring size men usually wear around size 20. Still, the average sizes remain, just that, and average. Every finger is different. For example, some men may have large knuckles, so that the ring still does not fit on the finger. Then you also need a bigger ring! But there are also men with slender fingers, who come closer to size 18. All are factors to take into account!
