Ceramics – Thailand
Country of origin Thailand is located in Southeast Asia and has more than 68 million inhabitants. The capital city is Bangkok. The country is characterized by a tropical climate. The Thai people are known for their special hospitality.
Artisans
This family business started making ceramic tableware in 2002. It started with five employees, but over the years has created jobs for 30 people. More than 70 per cent of the staff are women. The men do the heavy work and the women do the finer work like painting and polishing.
How is it made?
Molds are used. These are filled and have to dry. When they have fully hardened, they can be painted. Finally, a glaze is applied and the product can go into the oven. After the products have cooled down, the quality control takes place. The products are ready to be packed and shipped.
