Shungite comes from Russia, more specifically from the republic of Karelia, and is thought to be a stone resistant to radiation. It is said to be a healing stone with a unique composition. It is sometimes thought to absorb negative influences and electromagnetic radiation.
According to enthusiasts, Shungite may be harmonizing, anti-bacterial, purifying and protective.
Shungite has been used in medical treatments since the 18th century. Peter the Great founded the first Russian spa in Karelia, using the water-purifying effects of shungite, which he had personally experienced. He also promoted its use in the creation of purified water for the Russian army.
