The Medicine Buddha (in Sanskrit: Bhaisajyaguru) represents the healing aspect of the historical Buddha, Shukayamuni. His visualization color is blue like lapis lazuli. In his right hand he holds a branch of the myrobalan plant, in his left hand a bowl filled with medicinal nectar.

The Medicine Buddha stands for the abolition of the three ‘poisons’: attachment, anger and ignorance. These negative states of consciousness lead to disturbances in the wind, bile and mucus energies in the body, which can cause mental and physical complaints and ultimately illnesses. By meditating on the Medicine Buddha (through mantra recitation and visualization) the inner energies are balanced, which has a positive effect on body and mind.
